CORPS AND MARINE BOARD TO HOST MINTO FISH FACILITY INFORMATION MEETING
Board to accept comments on proposed river closure
 
PORTLAND, Ore. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Oregon State Marine Board will host a public information meeting on the rebuilding of the Corps’ Minto Adult Fish Collection Facility on the North Santiam River Tuesday, Aug. 10. from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
 
The Oregon State Marine Board will hear public comments on a Corps request, citing safety concerns, to close a 2.4 miles stretch of the North Santiam River to boats for the area between Niagara Falls and Packsaddle Park during the two-year construction project, beginning in 2011.
 
The public is invited to drop by any time to meet with agency staff and ask questions. A brief project presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Representatives from Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division also will be on hand.
 
The meeting is at the Lyons City Hall Council Chambers, 449 Fifth St., Lyons.
 
Information on the proposed river closure is available from the Marine Board at (503) 378-2611. The Marine Board will accept comments Aug. 1 to 31. Written comments may be sent by e-mail to osmb.rulemaking at state.or.us, by mail to OSMB, P.O. Box 14145, Salem, OR 97381, or by fax to (503) 378-4597.
 
A public comment period for the Corps’ draft Environmental Assessment for the Minto facility will open soon. The document addresses the impacts associated with this rebuilding activity. The complete public notice will be available at the meeting and online, along with the document, at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/pm/e/en_plan_assess.asp. Information on submitting written comments on the Environmental Assessment are available on this Web site.
