Outfitter/Guide Workshop Scheduled for Coos Bay, Gold Beach

The Oregon State Marine Board is inviting local fishing, hunting and other Board registered guides and outfitters to meetings in Coos Bay and Gold Beach to discuss specific issues related to management of Oregon's outfitters and guides.
The first meeting is 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, at the SW Oregon Community College, 1988 Newmark Ave. in Coos Bay. The Gold Beach meeting is 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, at the Gold Beach City Hall, 29592 Ellensburg Ave. in Gold Beach.
The public is invited to attend.
The meetings are part of a larger review process of the administrative rules administering the program. A survey covering a number of guide-related issues was mailed to all state registered guides and outfitters in January. Results of the survey will be used to begin a dialogue on the current state of the program, local issues and future trends and concerns.
"There are some rules we need to update regarding guide training on class III whitewater, guide corporations and other items," said Randy Henry, Policy Analyst for the Board. "We're also interested in how the program is working for guides now, what needs improvement, are there local issues to be aware of, and what do guides think about some of the more difficult issues like limited entry and competency training."
Support materials are available online at www.boatoregon.com<http://www.boatoregon.com> under "rulemaking."
Ten outfitter/guide program meetings are scheduled statewide this spring. Results of these meetings will be reviewed by a Guide Advisory Committee, established by the Board under statute, to determine if any regulation proposals are needed or appropriate.
