Marine Board Offers Help to Port of Brookings

                On Tuesday, March 15, Governor Kitzhaber held a press conference to announce that he had signed Executive Order 11-04, declaring a state of emergency for Curry County.  The Port of Brookings was heavily damaged by the tsunami that hit the Oregon coast on March 11.
"We've been working with the Port this week to identify equipment needs to help with the cleanup of the boat basin," said Marine Director Scott Brewen, who was present during the press conference.  "Next week we will assist the Port by conducting bathymetric readings in each of the boat basins to determine if any silting or other major changes have occurred as a result of the tsunami.  This is an important first step."  Brewen goes on to say, "In order to open the harbor, we need to determine the water depth to ensure safe transit for both commercial and recreational boats."
                The Governor also detailed the next steps in the recovery assistance process and announced a new Governor's Recovery Cabinet.  Members of the Recovery Cabinet include Director Brewen.
