Marine Board Approves Grant for Santiam Rest Area Ramp Replacement

The Oregon State Marine Board approved a grant for much-needed boating facility improvements on the Santiam River at the Santiam Rest Area Boat Ramp, on June 27 at their quarterly meeting held in Sisters, OR.
The Oregon Department of Transportation applied for, and received, a grant to replace the existing graveled-in boat ramp with a new, concrete ramp. The grant also provides for removal of the existing structures that may pose a hazard to boaters using the new launch ramp. The new location is near the existing ramp but in a portion of the river with adequate depth to allow motorboats to launch year-round. Marine Board engineers provided design and engineering assistance for the new ramp and ODOT will manage the construction of the new ramp.
The Board approved $63,750 in state boater funds combined with $36,664 of in-kind contributions, $43,000 of applicant cash and $191,250 in federal Sport Fish Restoration funds .administered through the Department of Fish and Wildlife. The total cost for the project is $334,664. The in-water work period has been established from June 1 through October 15, 2011. Construction is anticipated to begin next summer.
The Oregon State Marine Board is funded entirely by user fees, and the revenue generated from the fees goes back to boaters in the form of boating facility improvements, law enforcement services, and education and outreach.
