Marine Board Recognizes Marion [cid:image002.jpg at 01CC7EAE.3A969C60] County Volunteer
               The Oregon State Marine Board recognized the efforts of a very special volunteer, Bill Foote, of the Marion County Marine Patrol office at their annual post-season Law Enforcement Conference, held on Monday, September 26 in Eugene.
            Bill Foote has been a volunteer with the Sheriff's Office for more than three years and has been involved with every aspect of the Marine Patrol program.  Foote has taken on duties at Detroit Lake, including boat inspections, assisting deputies with towing disabled boats, and being in the right place at the right time.  One such example was when a sailboat overturned and he helped "right" the boat, ensured the boater was uninjured or too tired to continue, and helped get the sailboat underway.
            Foote also teaches boating safety classroom courses to help boaters obtain their education cards.  Foote uses many of his own resources in his volunteer time and never asks for more than, "What else can I do."  Foote has proven to be an indispensable volunteer with an amazing whit and attitude that's contagious.  The Oregon State Marine Board was proud to recognize Foote for his 382 hours of service during the 2011 boating season.
