Marine Board Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Boating Facilities Maintenance Assistance Program Rules

            The Oregon State Marine Board seeks public comment on boating facility Maintenance Assistance Program rules.  Proposed revisions will clarify certain aspects of the program, amend the allocation procedure and add to the required certifications provided by participants in the program.
            The Maintenance Assistance Program (MAP) provides annual matching grants to eligible participants to supplement routine maintenance at public boating access sites throughout the state.  Participation in the program is voluntary with 272 sites managed by 86 cities, counties, ports, park districts, and state agencies currently receiving grants.  The Marine Board allocates around $2 million for MAP grants each biennium.  Grant funds come entirely from state boater revenues and federal Clean Vessel Act grants.  These funds are derived from fees and taxes paid by the owners of registered boats.  The Marine Board does not receive any state General Fund monies.


            A public hearing is scheduled for January 5 at 7 p.m. at the City of Oregon City council chambers located at 625 Center Street, in Oregon City.
Written comment will be accepted beginning December 1 through January 6 at 5 p.m.  Written comments can be submitted via email to osmb.rulemaking at state.or.us<mailto:osmb.rulemaking at state.or.us> or by U.S. mail to June LeTarte, Rules Coordinator, 435 Commercial Street NE, Suite 400, P.O. Box 14145, Salem, OR 97309-5056.  Comments via telephone cannot be accepted.
Final rules will be considered by the Marine Board at their April 11 2012 Board meeting tentatively scheduled at the Marine Board office in Salem.
