Several Navigation Hazards Pose Danger to Boaters on the Rogue River

               The Jackson County Marine Patrol reported three hazards to navigation on the Rogue River to the Marine Board.  The first hazard is located above Shady Cove, another above the Twin Bridges and the last, between TouVelle and Bear Creek.  The Marine Patrol wants boaters who operate kayaks, canoes or inflatable craft -including inner tubes, to avoid these stretches along the Rogue River.
            "The most dangerous is the one above Shady Cove," says Deputy Jason Denton, Marine Patrol Deputy for Jackson County.  "This is a large, 160-foot long fir tree with at least a six foot root wad.  Several boaters have already been swept into the hazard which was witnessed by a local homeowner.  The current takes less maneuverable boats right into it," Denton says.  The marine patrol is hiring a local contractor to mitigate this hazard before the weekend.
            Both of the navigation hazards above Twin Bridges and between TouVelle and Bear Creek are trees that have fallen into the river from the bank, but in areas where the river is wide enough to safely navigate through.  Marine deputies are also looking into mitigating these hazards.
