[cid:image002.jpg at 01CFFE6E.994EF520] Washington County Marine Patrol Deputy Jerry Roley was recognized for his outstanding efforts as the Marine Board's 2014 "Officer of the Year" during the agency's post-season law enforcement conference held on October 28, in Bend.
Deputy Roley has been a seasonal marine deputy for Washington County for eight years. His passion and leadership have been instrumental in the successes of the county's Marine Law Enforcement Program. During 2014, Deputy Roley showed his multi-faceted skills by filling the role of program supervisor while continuing a jam-packed seasonal patrol schedule on Hagg Lake. Roley also conducted classroom boater education classes, coordinated a vessel maintenance program, facilitated the county's boater compliance program and worked with the Washington County Parks Director to assess the future needs and expectations of the boating public on Hagg Lake.
Additionally, Roley served as a lead instructor for the Marine Board's Law Enforcement Academy in Oregon City, Drift School in White City, and Jet School in Gold Beach. Roley is excellent at fostering relationships with neighboring counties to improve inter-agency enforcement activities and investigations, and participated in joint training and regional patrol effort such as Operation Dry Water and Make Way Campaigns. In concert with his ability to foster relationships, Roley also participates in a county initiative to improve access, safety and use of the Tualatin River for canoers, kayakers and other boaters..
Roley's can-do attitude, willingness to help other agencies, and his ability to inspire others helped him rise to the top in the eyes of the Oregon State Marine Board's Law Enforcement Advisory Group who selected him as the 2014 Officer of the Year.
The Oregon State Marine Board contracts with 32 counties and the Oregon State Police for on-the-water marine patrol services and provides equipment, training, and patrol boats to contracted agencies to enforce the boating laws and help provide safety for Oregon's boaters.
