PGE’s Promontory Park Earns Clean Marina Designation

[IMG_3640]Oregon State Marine Board designated Promontory Park Marina, owned by Portland General Electric in Estacada, as a Certified Clean Marina on June 30. This makes the 64th certified Clean Marina in Oregon.
Promontory Park recently re-opened after a two-year closure to install a fish passage and make other recreation improvements to the marina and campground facilities. PGE showed strong interest in certification as a Clean Marina while making improvements to the marina.
Promontory Park implemented strong environmental business practices including building a bioswale for stormwater filtration, creating moorage rules that protect water quality, installing a designated fishing dock with a fish cleaning station, [IMG_3636] added a fueling station, and installing fishing line recycling containers. Promontory Park also distributes free boater spill kits to moorage clients and has a thorough emergency response plan if there’s an oil spill in or near the Clackamas River.
“Facilities who earn Clean Marina Certification show a strong commitment to protecting the environment,” says Meg Gardner, Environmental Programs Coordinator for the Oregon State Marine Board. “Boaters and the general public will know that certified facilities are doing all they can to preserve and protect Oregon’s important natural resources.”
As a certified Clean Marina, the Promontory Park receives an Oregon Clean Marina flag, a framed certificate, educational materials, and an oil spill response kit. These items, along with the authorization to use the Clean Marina logo and recognition in Marine Board [IMG_3638] publications, are a few of the benefits to participating marina facilities.
Oregon Clean Marina Program is a voluntary enrollment program that recognizes marinas, boatyards, yacht clubs, and floating home moorages that, along with being in compliance with existing environmental regulations, use a high percentage of environmentally responsible practices to keep Oregon’s waterways clean.
