Larry Warren Takes the Helm at the Marine Board

[cid:image005.jpg at 01D3990D.A869D8D0]The Oregon State Marine Board welcomes Larry Warren to the helm. Warren will begin his appointment as the agency's new Director beginning February 5, 2018. Warren has served the State of Oregon in variety of roles over the last 17 years; the most recent role with the Department of Administrative Services. Warren is passionate about boating and is honored to serve Oregon's recreational boaters.

As child growing up in Oregon, most of his family activities were centered around boating. Whether it was drifting rivers in his uncle's drift boat, fishing and boating at Mckay Reservoir with his grandfather, braving the Buoy 10 fishery or spending time canoeing all over the high lakes and rivers, Warren has always been connected to boating throughout his life. While in the military, Warren spent most of his time stationed in North Carolina and had the opportunity to learn about running small jon boats in back sloughs and go-fast bass boats across large bodies of water.

During Warren's down time, he and his family can be found boating in the ocean or various lakes. In recent years his family began to flat water kayak as a way to explore more water and find a different kind of connection to the outdoors. Favorite waterbodies they've explored include Lake Billy Chinook, Detroit, Crescent, Odell lakes and Green Peter reservoir. In addition to owning a motorboat and being an avid paddler, Warren occasionally takes a guided or chartered fishing trip from the coast. One of Warren's favorite experiences was a Dory trip out of the historic Dory fleet from Pacific City.

Having experienced boating in a wide variety of ways, Warren appreciates the diversity of Oregon's boating user groups. Warren said, "Even though motivations for using the waterways vary, boaters' passion for their activities transcend them."

Warren is often asked why boating is such an important part of his life. The answer is easy. Boating activities are cornerstone of his connection with his family and friends.

The Oregon State Marine Board's mission is to serve Oregon's recreational boating public through education, enforcement, access and environmental stewardship for a safe and enjoyable experience. Learn more about the agency at www.boatoregon.com<http://www.boatoregon.com>.
