At the April Forum, I made a presentation on Processing the Final
Payment for a Deceased Employee. As a result of the questions
participants asked, I have updated the Recommended Practice for Deceased
Employees in the OSPA Reference Manual and also updated the PowerPoint
slides used for the presentation. Both of these have now been published
to the OSPS web site.
The changes include:
- When calculating back-up withholding, use the employee's gross wages
- Submit a Form 1099-MISC Change Request to SFMS if the payee's share of
gross wages was $600 or more, there is back-up withholding, or if the
payee is already on the R*STARS Vendor Profile (regardless of amount)
- If the employee has domestic partner insurance coverage and the
insurance will continue in the month after the employee's death, add the
imputed value to the gross wages when making the RGD and DEC entries on
the P050 and for the Form 1099-MISC
Once again, your involvement has improved the quality of our product.
