OSPS E-News ~ State Data Center's Encrypted Mainframe Access Project

Announcements from OSPS to the users of the Oregon State Payroll Application osps-news at listsmart.osl.state.or.us
Thu Dec 3 14:37:27 PST 2009

This is a reminder of the State Data Center's January 1 deadline for
elimination of non-encrypted mainframe sessions.

Access to the DAS Mainframe will be limited to encrypted access
effective January 1. If your agency IT help desk has not contacted you
to assess whether the terminal emulator you are using to connect to OSPA
is providing for an encrypted session, you should contact them at once.
You may need an alternative emulator installed before January 1. We are
told that Passport and Zephyr are two emulators that do provide for an
encrypted session.

This includes users of the P005 and P006 screens for Online Daily Time
for those who connect directly to the DAS Mainframe. If access to
Online Daily Time is through another mainframe (such as DHS) which then
connects to the DAS Mainframe, the January 1 deadline does not apply.

This project also includes those agencies who upload time and attendance
batches from an agency owned time system and any agency who accesses the
DAS Mainframe for the purpose of picking up a payroll related file.

DAS Security held a meeting about this project for agency IT and
Security staff on October 1, 2009. SFMS and OSPS hosted a meeting for
agency IT and security staff on this same topic on October 19, 2009.
