(Payroll Technician)

$32,988 TO $46,260 Annually

 

You must be a current State of Oregon employee in a permanent position,
in order to be considered eligible for this opportunity.

 

You must be a current employee of the State of Oregon (this includes
regular status, trial service and limited duration) in order to be
eligible for this recruitment. 

 

The Payroll/Benefits Unit is responsible for processing payroll for the
agency. This involves application of agency, state, and federal payroll
policies, procedures, laws, and multiple collective bargaining
agreements for employees located throughout the state. The unit is also
responsible for administration of employee benefits. 

 

This position assists the Payroll Manager in administering payroll and
benefits for agency employees.  It processes payroll of approximately
$6,000,000 monthly and provides benefit information for approximately
1300 employees.  

 

Major duties:

 

*        Assist with monitoring and maintaining accurate and complete
payroll, leave, and benefit data in various databases,

*        Research and respond to inquiries from employees, supervisors
and managers regarding payroll and benefit issues,

*        Process employee payroll deductions and special checks and
enter payroll corrections, 

*        Provide information and advice to management and others on
issues of pay and benefits,

*        Assist with training timekeepers in payroll timesheet review
and entry,

*        Participate in processing deposits timely and accurately.

 

TO QUALIFY 

 

Your PD 100 (application form) will be reviewed to verify that you meet
the qualifications stated in this section.  To receive credit, your
application form must clearly show that you have:

 

*        three years of technical support accounting experience. Two
year of the experience must include a) coding transactions and checking
them for propriety, b) balancing, and c) resolving discrepancies in
computer edits; OR

 

*        at least 90 quarter (60 semester) credit hours from an
accredited college, university or vocational-technical school that
includes 12 quarter (9 semester) hours in accounting.

 

Training or experience must include operating a ten-key calculator by
touch and using a computer to enter, update or retrieve information.

 

NOTE:  to receive credit for required courses, submit a photocopy of
transcripts.

match the position requirements and desirable attributes will be offered

WORKING CONDITIONS 

 

1.  Work is performed in an office environment.

2.  Evening or weekend work may be required to meet monthly or quarterly
deadlines.

3.  OYA is a tobacco free environment.

4.  Have a valid Oregon Drivers license and an acceptable driving
record.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION 

 

*        This position is with the OYA's Central Office, located in
Salem.

*        This recruitment is open to anyone meeting the qualifications

*        If you are hired you will become part of the State's management
team.

Employees Retirement System (PERS) in the Oregon Public Service
Retirement Plan (OPSRP) with employer contributions. This position is
also designated as  "General Membership" with PERS. 

*        All positions in OYA require the incumbent to serve as a
"Mandatory Reporter" of child abuse.

*        NOTE: H.I.R.E. System participants who wish to be considered

OREGON YOUTH AUTHORITY MISSION  

 

The mission of the Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) is to protect the public
and reduce crime by holding youth offenders accountable and providing
opportunities for reformation in safe environments.

As an OYA employee, individuals are a part of the team responsible for
the supervision, management and administration of correctional
facilities, parole and probation services, community out-of-home
placements, and other functions related to state programs for youth
corrections.  These responsibilities are provided for youth offenders
from diverse cultures and backgrounds ranging in age from 12 to 18 (in
some cases up to age 25).  The youth offenders may reside in one of
eleven OYA-operated facilities located around the state or may be
involved with services under the jurisdiction of OYA such as parole and
probation.  

 

The Oregon Youth Authority values culturally competent staff to provide
a continuum of services to our diverse clientele.
