OSPS E-News ~ Stale Dated Checks Update

Announcements from OSPS to the users of the Oregon State Payroll Application osps-news at listsmart.osl.state.or.us

Hello everyone,

It is that time of year to start thinking about stale-dated checks and the escheatment process.

Normally around this time of year (actually mid-June) OSPS generates a report that lists your agency's outstanding checks that were issued more than two years ago.

State Agencies have a statutory responsibility to exercise due diligence in an effort to find the rightful owner of the check before it is submitted as Unclaimed Property to the Department of State Lands (Reference ORS 98.352).

In an effort to streamline the escheatment process and to help Agencies fulfill the due diligence requirement mentioned above, OSPS is instigating changes to the content, format and timing of the report that is provided to Agencies. The new report will identify those stale-dated payees that are still active State employees and which agency they are currently employed with.

The new report will be available July 15th and we will send out another eNews announcing its availability and providing further instructions.
