Re: Action required re: Temporary Interruption of Work (includes inclement weather)

In order to prepare for inclement weather or other hazardous conditions, please take the following actions:

1. Review and follow the directions in State HR Policy 60.015.01 Temporary Interruption of Work and relevant language in applicable collective bargaining agreements - specifically the agency's role in notifying employees.

2. Post on agency bulletin boards by Nov. 1, 2013, information about where an employee may locate information about closures and curtailment of agency operations.

3. Send an announcement reminding employees to watch major and local news channels for information about closures and curtailments. Adhere to policy or collective bargaining agreement for specific timelines required to announce closures.

4. Communicate with the employees who are required to report to work - those deemed essential to operations in the event of closure or curtailment. Please ensure essential employees understand their role during a curtailment or closure.

5. Remind employees to review procedures in the Temporary Interruption of Work policy and any applicable CBA.

The central Building Closure Web page located at: http://www.oregon.gov/DAS/pages/bldg_close/index.aspx provides the following information:

*         Current building closure announcements

* An employee's ability to receive text messages or emails about certain building closures

* Resources which include sample posters an agency may customize for printing and posting in the worksite, and a link to the Temporary Interruption of Work policy

Agency directors and human resource staff should contact CHRO policy unit at hrmc.policy at state.or.us<mailto:hrmc.policy at state.or.us> for policy questions and their DAS Labor Relations Manager for Collective Bargaining Agreement questions.
