Hello Payroll Professionals,

This is a reminder and update on the PERS pickup switch.

REMINDER: starting with the February paid March 1 pay period, most employees who are PERS participating members, (employees currently making contributions) will begin paying the mandatory 6% PERS Pick-Up contribution. What this means is rather than the state paying the mandatory 6% contribution to members' PERS IAP account, the 6% will be deducted from the employee's gross wages as a pre-income tax contribution to PERS. To help offset the impact this will have on an employee's net pay, PERS participating members will see their base salary increase by 6.95% starting February 1.

REMINDER: this change impacts all management service, unrepresented staff, and represented employees except SEIU (for whom it has already gone into effect), as well as AEE and AFSCME Parole & Probation (for whom a similar change will take effect later this year).

UPDATE: OSPS provided a list of PERS participating members to HR and they ran a mass job on February 3 to update the range option code of 'P' which updated OSPA too. This job increased the employee's base salary by 6.95% with an effective start date of 02/01/2019. OSPA ran a job to update the RTMT STAT field on the P010 screen with an 'E' last night, February 4, with an effective date of 02/28/19. This will trigger the 6% contributions to be deducted from the employee's paycheck starting with the March 1 paystub.

REMINDER: anyone who begins contributions in the February pay period or after will need to be updated by HR staff once Workday goes live, and agency payroll staff on the P010 screen.

REMINDER: agencies must continue to do PERS status checks. Payroll offices must enter the 'Retirement Start Date" field on the P010.
