OSPS E-News ~ Upcoming PERS pick up training for payroll & HR

[Announcements from OSPS to the users of the Oregon State Payroll Application]

Payroll professionals,

The following applies to management, executive and classified unrepresented service.  It also applies to most AFSCME represented positions.

PERS
Effective February 1, 2019, the state will no longer "pick up" the employee 6% contribution to PERS and employees will begin making the 6% contribution via payroll deduction.   Employees' contributions shall be treated as "pre-tax" contributions pursuant to Internal Revenue Service Section 414(h)(2). Compensation plan salary rates for PERS participating members shall be increased by 6.95% effective February 1, 2019.

AFSCME Parole and Probation and AEE will be making this change effective June 1, 2019 with a 6.5% (AFSCME P&P) and 6% (AEE) salary increase.  This is similar to the change SEIU represented positions had back in November 2016.

DAS OSPS and LRU are partnering on some upcoming trainings regarding this change.  The purpose of the training is to identify the processes HR and Payroll staff must follow with this change, specifically regarding PERS status checks, transfers between agencies and representation and to help identify roles and responsibilities.

The following are the dates and times scheduled. We plan to post one of these sessions online.  There will be a sign-up sheet at the auditorium but nothing will be posted in iLearn.  Seating is limited to the first 145 people.  This training is intended for Payroll and HR staff.
