Subject: [DAS_Centralized_PERS_Services_Team] IMPORTANT notice re: retirees working
HR & Payroll Professionals,
On 1/13/22 DAS sent the below communication lifting the 1039 hour limit on retirees working at Executive Branch agencies. With this change, DAS is instructing agencies to code the PERS Class Plan in Workday for newly hired retirees as follows:
Working WITHOUT hour limit:
* Regular retirees
Working WITH hour limit:
* Early retirees have a work hour limit per statute. PERS will provide this information during the status check.
We are not asking agencies to conduct a review of their existing retiree coding at this time. We are asking that agencies use the coding logic provided above for any future retiree hires.
CPERS is reviewing coding for early retirees currently employed and will reach out to agencies if any corrections are needed. This is expected to be a very small number of employees (8 employees statewide).
Lastly, please remember that there are other policies that impose work hour restrictions, such as temporary staff, etc. This is separate from PERS related hour restrictions and is not part of the PERS Class Plan coding in Workday. If you have questions about position hour restrictions, please contact your HR representative.
Thank you,
Shauna Tobiasson | Senior CPERS Analyst

Subject: IMPORTANT notice re retirees working
Colleagues
Due to the current challenges in recruiting staff, the Governor has decided to lift the 1039 hour limit on retirees working in the Executive Branch of state government. While we realize this will not solve our recruitment challenges, we believe it is one tool in the tool box to help agencies meet their staffing needs. We ask you to continue your diligent efforts in recruiting a diverse workforce.
Please reach out to CHRO if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Katy
