1. Business tax forms update
Business taxpayers will no longer receive certain tax packages, including Form 941, in the mail from the IRS.
There is also new information about filing business forms affected by the extender provisions.

2. 2011 Form 941 and instructions now online
The 2011 Form 941, Employer’s Quarterly Federal Tax Return and instructions are now available on IRS.gov.
Form 941 contains a new, line 5e Section 3121(q) Notice and Demand – Tax due on unreported tips.
This line will be used if the employer receives notice and demand from the IRS regarding unreported tips as described in Headliner 298.
This headliner is titled New IRS Program Uses Data from Employees' Forms 4137 to Determine the Social Security and Medicare Taxes Owed by the Employers of Tipped Employees.

3. Desktop Calendar Tool
The IRS has a new online tool to make it easier to remember important tax and deposit deadlines.
Download the free IRS CalendarConnector and keep it on your computer desktop to check important tax dates on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

4. 94x XML business e-file - tax year 2011 updates
Please use the current Schema marked Final 2011 Form 94x Schema (version 2.9.2).
We recommend you complete testing prior to filing 2011 first quarter Forms 941.
Additionally, software developers should perform Pre-Validation of XML Data.
Developers should use a validating XML parser to determine if their records are valid XML files.

5. March IRS Live focuses on requirements for federal tax return preparers
David R. Williams, director of the IRS Return Preparer Office is the main presenter for the free March 30 IRS Live webinar, Requirements for Federal Tax Return Preparers.

6. Payroll/employment tax returns survey
The Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee is conducting an anonymous survey of companies and professionals who prepare employment/payroll tax returns.
Surveys should be completed by March 20. Please complete only one survey per company.
ETAAC will use the data to provide input to the IRS to encourage increased participation in electronic filing.

7. SSA/IRS Reporter goes green
The SSA/IRS Reporter is now available exclusively online.
New editions will be posted on IRS.gov by the middle of March, June, September and December.

8. New e-news feature makes sharing easy
Look for the “share” icon at the bottom left of this newsletter. This new widget makes it easy to share this e-newsletter with others in online social networks.
