Please pardon the cross-posting. Hi, folks. Below is an update from Wendy Cornelisen, State Librarian. - Best, Jen (Jen Maurer, School Library Consultant, State Library of Oregon, jennifer.maurer at slo.oregon.gov<mailto:jennifer.maurer at slo.oregon.gov>)

Subject: [TL-Directors] October update from State Librarian

A smattering of updates at the end of this week:

  * The First Circuit has scheduled oral argument in the Rhode Island vs. Trump case [lawsuit against the executive order to shut down the Institute of Museum and Library Services] for Thursday, December 4 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific time. If you're interested, you will be able to listen to the arguments live on YouTube. Here is a link to the court's web page: https://www.ca1.uscourts.gov/courtlivestream.

  * The federal shutdown continues, so there are no new updates on LSTA funding [https://www.oregon.gov/library/Pages/Updates.aspx]. The Senate is in recess until 10/14, and it is their action that is required at this point.

  * After a screening of The Librarians at the Portland Art Museum<https://tomorrowtheater.org/movies/the-librarians/> on Friday, November 7, I'll be moderating a panel discussion featuring Annie Lewis, Multnomah County Director of Libraries, and the film's producer, Janique Robillard. Hope to see you there!

Assuming airports are still open next week, I'm heading to the COSLA [Chief Officers of State Library Agencies] Fall Conference Thursday, October 16, and returning back to the office on Thursday, October 23. Getting together with all the other state librarians gives me a chance to break out my Oregon earrings and brag on all of the amazing things you do for Oregonians every day. Thank you for all the ways that you provide library services!

Thanks,
Wendy
