Dear Directors:
I would ask that you forward this message to folks on your staff who catalog
library materials. They are encouraged to participate in some important work
to look at the future role of the Library of Congress in the creation and
distribution of bibliographic data. It¹s important that the consultants
hear from public library stakeholders. I¹m sure they would also like to hear
from library directors if you are interested in providing input.

Thanks for your help. --> Jim

Subject: Library of Congress Study - Input wanted from Public and School
Library Catalogers and Technical Services Librarians

Dear Jim,
You might already know that the Library of Congress has decided to continue
its investigation into the creation and distribution of bibliographic data
in US and Canadian libraries --- with primary focus on the economics of
current practices. LC has engaged R2 Consulting, LLC to lead the
investigation. The research we are conducting and the eventual outcome of
the project could have significant implications for libraries of all types.
To keep people informed about the progress of our work, and to get input
from catalogers and cataloging coordinators, we have constructed a social
networking site at: http://bibrecords.ning.com/ We have been promoting the
site for several weeks now, but have failed to attract significant numbers
from the public and school library communities.

We are contacting you now with the hope that you will help us get the word
out to technical services departments and catalogers in your state. We want
them to join our network so that they are aware of the project, so that they
can communicate their needs and interests, and so that we can easily invite
them to participate in our online survey next month. So again:
http://bibrecords.ning.com/

Thanks in advance for whatever support you can offer and if you have
questions, please don¹t hesitate to be back in touch.

Sincerely, ruth
