The Early Learning Council has submitted a report to the Legislature on the process, characteristics, timeline and general roadmap for Hub Implementation. While this is mostly targeted to public library directors I am sending it to all directors because we all have an interest in the Governor's education initiative. I believe now is the time that public libraries should be talking with early learning providers in their communities to learn about the activities that are taking place around developing early learning hubs. Katie Anderson, our youth services consultant, and I are tracking this process very closely and would be happy to talk with you about it. Katie is very engaged with the early learning community at the state level and can provide you with information about state level activities and how they relate locally. Public libraries have been in the early learning business for a long time and OSL has a history of promoting and providing early literacy support for libraries, from the Ready to Read grant to the recently completed Reading for Healthy Families project. For a brief history of libraries and early literacy in Oregon I would direct you to my last four blog posts Snippets From the State Librarian. I am very excited about the Governor's education priorities and believe that libraries will continue and improve on our current ability to be an essential resource for all Oregon children and their families MaryKay Dahlgreen State Librarian Oregon State Library marykay.dahlgreen at state.or.us 503-378-4367 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Thanks. I am forwarding this survey to you on behalf of the Digital Content Working Group of the American Library Association. The survey seeks your opinion on the importance of 15 criteria for access to e-books in libraries. These criteria form an e-book scorecard that you will be able to use to evaluate offerings from e-book vendors and publishers. Please complete the survey by clicking on https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=JrIvn3qRfofs3CfcdjyE2GP4CIWx8XgmMLqr81%2b%2fC7s%3d The survey should take no more than 15 minutes. This is the national compilation of the public library survey that you completed last year for the State Library. The data that you submitted in October of 2012 will be submitted to IMLS in April and they will report on it in January of 2014. This is also my clever way of directing you to my blog which I post to every Tuesday. I am especially pleased with the previous four posts that explore the history of libraries and early learning in Oregon, you might want to take a look :) MaryKay MaryKay Dahlgreen State Librarian Oregon State Library marykay.dahlgreen at state.or.us 503-378-4367 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <810CC03BDFB8D94883767344C8B7EE2E37CE6270@OSLEXCHANGE.osl.state.or.us.local> [hourglass.jpeg]Time is running out! Please help us prioritize services of the State Library by Thursday, February 21. The State Library is involved in a reorganization process that was triggered by the release of the 2013-2015 Governor's Balanced Budget in December of 2012. We are looking at all of the services we provide and trying to prioritize them to continue the most valued ones. We are asking the library community for your feedback on services you most need. This will help us chart our course towards a leaner State Library. If you have any questions about any items, please call us at 503-378-2525 or check out our webpage that will come up at the end of the survey. We are hoping to hear from as many people as possible in Oregon's libraries, and thank you for forwarding this email and encouraging your colleagues to let us know their opinions. The survey will be posted to numerous lists. Please only respond once. The survey URL is http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/75ZBHPQ. They have mapped locations of 16,808 public library outlets in the US based on 2010 data. Could you please check that your library and its branches are mapped correctly and let them know if they need to make changes? Please go to the mapping tool page (http://imaplibraries.org/maps.html) to view your library and branches. Instructions are provided in the attachment to this e-mail. It should take less than a minute to either verify or correct the location your library and branches in most instances. The requested passcode on the website is OR. Thank you very much for your help.
