Subject: [PL-Directors] Seeking facilitators for RIPL 2016
Message-ID: <203B0B8CF6665A4B822F17E789DD1AD15EDA82D3@OSLEXCHANGE.osl.state.or.us.local>
Hello,
Are you interested in attending the 2016 Research Institute for Public Libraries (RIPL)? Do you have facilitation skills that you want to use at RIPL?
We will be selecting up to 10 RIPL participants to serve as facilitators during the institute. Facilitators should?
? already be planning to participate in RIPL because of their interest in strengthening their skills in data and evaluation,
? have experience facilitating small group activities and discussions, and
? be committed to encouraging participant involvement in group activities and discussions and fostering connections among participants, instructors, and staff.
Prior experience with data and evaluation is a bonus, but is not required.
Benefits to facilitators include:
? Reduced registration fee: $1,165 (20% discount). This fee includes the curriculum, three nights lodging, and most meals.
? Guaranteed spot at RIPL 2016.
? Enhanced experience because of the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the institute design and curriculum.
For more information and to apply, please see: http://www.lrs.org/2015/11/02/ripl-2016-facilitator-opportunity/
Thanks!

Subject: [PL-Directors] Frustrated by outcome based evaluation? Project
Outcome is a no-cost resource that may help!
Message-ID: <640435851FD7CB4AB3C4BE0D1963BA245EFB8241@OSLEXCHANGE.osl.state.or.us.local>
If you answer "yes" to any of the following questions, then Project Outcome might be right for you!
* Do you have anxiety about conducting a proper outcome based evaluation?
* Does your library need to do outcome based evaluation, but you don't have the time or resources to do it from scratch?
* Are you struggling to find a good survey tool to gather information about your programs for outcome based evaluation reports?
* Are you unsure how to effectively analyze and present the results of an outcome based evaluation?
* Are you considering paying to subscribe to Impact Survey?
Project Outcome is free until at least 2017 (maybe longer!) and also gives you free access to Impact Survey starting on November 12, 2015.
Learn more and sign-up: https://www.projectoutcome.org/
Questions? Contact: Project Outcome staff via phone 312-280-5857 or this email form: https://www.projectoutcome.org/contacts/new
If you want more information about how Project Outcome aligns with what's going on in the Oregon library community, read on! If not, skip the rest of this email.
Project Outcome evaluates four desired outcomes across seven types of library services and programs. The four outcomes evaluated are patrons' changes in 1) knowledge, 2) skills, 3) behavior, and 4) attitude as a result of using library services. The seven library service areas these four outcomes are evaluated in are:
* Civic/community engagement
* Digital inclusion
* Early childhood literacy
* Economic development
* Education and lifelong learning
* Job skills
* Summer reading
As an Oregon public library, you might use Project Outcome to conduct outcome based evaluations associated with:
* Edge Initiative (digital inclusion, education and lifelong learning, job skills)
* Ready to Read grant (early childhood literacy, summer reading)
* Statewide databases (education and lifelong learning, job skills)
* Optional: Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) competitive grants (Project Outcome service areas would vary depending on your LSTA grant)
Questions about using Project Outcome for statewide programs? Contact:
* Darci Hanning, darci.hanning at state.or.us (Edge Initiative)
* Katie Anderson, katie.anderson at state.or.us (Ready to Read)
* Arlene Weible, arlene.weible at state.or.us (Statewide Database Licensing Program)
* Ann Reed, ann.reed at state.or.us (LSTA)

Katie

Subject: [PL-Directors] Public Library Director 101 - new course from Web
Junction
Message-ID: <203B0B8CF6665A4B822F17E789DD1AD15EDE2262@OSLEXCHANGE.osl.state.or.us.local>
FYI, a new course from WebJunction!
"Public Library Directors 101" is a four-part video series designed by state librarians, library development directors, and continuing education coordinators around the question, "What do public library directors tell us they wish they had known when they started their job?"
These videos are provided by COSLA, the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies, and are a valuable resource for new library directors and even those thinking about becoming directors. Use the Learner Guide provided with the course to capture your thoughts and ideas about your learning and next steps.
The best part about all of the courses and webinar archives in the WebJunction Course Catalog is that they are free and available for when you have the time. If you can't finish the course all at once, don't worry - it will be there when you return, as will all of the great resources available to you on WebJunction.org.
Sign up for your free account today and explore this new addition to the course catalog!
