Hello public library directors!
Here are the upcoming free learning events from United for Libraries - one of the benefits provided by the State Library of Oregon using LSTA Funds. "Learning Live" events are recorded and available shortly after the live event. Directors, staff, volunteers, board members, Friends and Foundation members are all welcome to attend for free.

United for Libraries "Learning Live": 'Practical Policy Management,' Recording Available

The September Learning Live was "Practical Policy Management: A Guide for Trustees, featuring Dr. Andrew Smith. This session will educate both library Trustees and directors of the statutory responsibility of library Trustees in creating policy, as well as practical steps for creating, maintaining, and managing effective policy.
'Library Policy Retreat for Boards: Intellectual Freedom & Artificial Intelligence': Sept. 27, 9:00am - 12:00p PT
United for Libraries presents a virtual retreat for library Boards/Trustees and those who work with them on Sat., Sept. 27. This session is designed for board members and directors to attend individually, or as a group assembled in a library meeting room. The retreat will be held in two parts, with the first session focusing on library policies and intellectual freedom, including best practices for the everyday functions of the library and patron privacy. The second session will address how AI can be strategically implemented in the library, and what boards need to know about AI and policies. Register for Oct. Learning Live, 'Leveling Up Your Foundation: Strategic Planning for Maximizing Success'
Tues., Oct. 14 at 11:00a PT │Foundations can be a library's secret asset - they can educate and advocate in the community differently than the library itself. As library challenges increase, these groups are being called upon to step up, but is yours ready?This session will cover how to evaluate and build capacity among your Foundation, from recruitment and communications, fundraising and donor relations, community partnerships, issues preparedness, and more. While designed especially with Foundations in mind, this session will also be useful for staff liaisons to such groups, Friends groups, and anyone interested in organizational design and strategy. 'Public Charities Can Advocate and Lobby': Oct. 22, 12:00p PT
United for Libraries will present Public Charities Can Advocate and Lobby: How Your 501(c)(3) Friends of the Library Group or Library Foundation Can Influence Policy for the Greater Good, a webinar on Oct. 22. Nonprofits can and should take advantage of their right to influence law and policy. This workshop will cover advocacy activities you can engage in, and how to maximize your non-lobbying advocacy when representing 501(c)(3) public charities, including public and community foundations.
