The Oregon Department of Justice, Crime Victims' Assistance Section is
sponsoring a 40 hour Basic Crisis Response Team Training following the
National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) model. The
training
will be held in Salem, OR, November 27-December 1, 2006. The
registration fee is $200 for individuals and $150 per person for local
teams of three or more. Deadline for registration is November 6,
2006.
An application for CEUs has been made to the Oregon Chapter of NASW
and
DPSST CEUs will be available. There is a limit of 40 participants for
this training. Attached is a registration form and more information.
Please feel free to circulate to interested persons.
The training is open to those providing or wanting to provide
community
crisis response in the event of a disaster or criminal or terrorist
incident in which there are mass casualties. Law enforcement,
firefighters, emergency managers, EMTs and other first responders,
social workers, mental health providers, clergy, victim advocates, and
medical professional are encouraged to attend.
Participants will leave the training with knowledge regarding the
nature
of trauma, trauma response, crisis intervention appropriate crisis
intervention techniques, issues of different populations and cultures
and roles and responsibilities regarding how to function as part of a
community crisis intervention team. The training will also provide
information on Oregon's State Behavioral Health Plan for Emergency
Response.
Upon successful completion of the training, participants will be given
the opportunity to be a part of the DOJ Crisis Response Team and may
choose to become a NOVA National Crisis Responder.
