School Bus Safety
Recent heavy rains have highlighted school bus safety situations regarding flooded roads. ORS 811.445 makes it a Class D traffic violation to drive on a road that the local road authority has closed.

There are plenty of times when a school driver has to make a judgment about driving through water on the roadway, and guidance is provided in the Advanced Unit B: Special Driving Conditions instructor's manual. However, when the road has been closed, the road authority as already concluded that the road is unsafe.

Please remind your drivers to abide by the posted road safety signs, so as not to put students or themselves at risk.
