From katie.anderson at state.or.us Mon Jan 24 09:34:05 2011 From: katie.anderson at state.or.us (Katie Anderson) Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2011 17:34:05 +0000 Subject: [R2R-OR] Summer Reading: order table tents by 1/27 Message-ID: <640435851FD7CB4AB3C4BE0D1963BA241B10F64C@OSLEXCHANGE.osl.state.or.us.local> Hello! As you know we included all the orders for summer reading materials in the summer reading survey this year, unfortunately I forgot to include one item for the summer reading sweepstakes. If you would like free table tents to put on tables, counters, or shelves in your library to promote the summer reading sweepstakes please let me know how many you want by Thursday, January 27th. Be sure to include your name, your library, and your library's address so we can make sure the table tents get added to the correct order that you placed with the survey. Next year table tents will be included on the summer reading survey, I apologize for the mistake this year. Due to feedback from libraries, the large stand-up cardboard displays will not be offered again this year. If you saved the one from last year, feel free to use it for future summer reading sweepstakes. If you didn't save it and want one, there are still several left. Please contact Kathy Griffin directly at KGriffin at tiaa-cref.org to request one of the left-over stand-up cardboard displays. These are also free. Be sure to provide your name, your library, and your library's address. Dive into Saving for College update: we have one more winner to confirm for the 2010 summer reading sweepstakes. As soon as the last winner is confirmed I will send an email on libs-or, kids-lib, and OYAN announcing all 15 of the winners and their libraries. I'll also include a little recap on Dive into Saving for College, and information regarding the 2011 sweepstakes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Cedar Mill Community Library ? Douglas County Library System ? Eugene Public Library ? Lake County Library District ? Stayton Public Library. This year as I was reviewing your Final Reports the following projects really stuck out in my mind and I thought they may be of interest to other libraries: Book Art: Cedar Mill Community Library A select number of in-home childcare sites received 4 pictures with instructions and supplies for an age-appropriate art experience based on the stories in the books. Outreach volunteers read the books at the participating childcare sites and children created art corresponding art projects. Examples of the artwork with the children?s comments were displayed at the library. The children were given special invitations to share with families and friends for an ?Opening Night? event at the library. Baby Showers: Lake County Library District and Klamath County Library In partnership with the local Public Health Office and pediatricians, invitations to a baby shower at the libraries were sent to new parents. Local businesses and organizations donated refreshments and baby-related gifts such as bibs, blankets, and toys to giveaway to parents at the baby shower. The libraries, both Reading for Healthy Families participants, had ?a captive audience to spread the early literacy message!? Big Rig Summer Reading Kick-Off: St. Helen?s Public Library ?When families came to see the 17 different rigs, we gave them a voucher for a free hardhat to be redeemed inside the library. The line streamed out the front door of the library and our door count? was double for a typical day! We were able to sign-up participants that had not been in the library before? Other interesting items from your Ready to Read reports: Several libraries described successful partnerships with schools/teachers that brought teen parenting classes (parents with their babies!) to the library, and many libraries reported that circulation of Oregon Battle of the Books titles was very high during the summer reading program. Thank you all for the wonderful library youth services you provide your communities!
