From katie.anderson at state.or.us Mon Jan 7 14:09:01 2013 From: katie.anderson at state.or.us (Katie Anderson) Date: Mon, 7 Jan 2013 22:09:01 +0000 Subject: [R2R-OR] Looking for programs to showcase at state level meeting, contribute by January 25th Message-ID: <640435851FD7CB4AB3C4BE0D1963BA2437E2C41A@OSLEXCHANGE.osl.state.or.us.local> Hello! I will be presenting on Oregon libraries at a state level early childhood meeting the first week of February. As you know, libraries have been included in the Early Learning Council and Oregon's Race to the Top Early Learning Grant. This is our opportunity to show our state level partners what we do and how we can help. I would like to include in my presentation examples of successful library partnerships and/or outreach programs your libraries are already implementing-regardless of funding. Programs might be storytimes, rotating books collections, early literacy training, play groups, or anything else your library provides for children under six and their caregivers. If you would like me to show-off your library's successful program, please email me a brief description of your program, your name and contact information, and a photo by Friday, January 25th. Photos will only be used in a PowerPoint presented to state agency staff, they will not be shared publicly. Please let me know if you have any questions before submitting your program for inclusion in the PowerPoint. This is completely voluntary, however your program examples with photos will help our state level partners better understand what you do, how your libraries contribute to early learning, and that you are valuable partners. I'm especially interested in programs that do one or more of the following so please be sure to specifically identify any partners and the target audience for your program: * Specifically target high-risk populations such as o Migrant children o Families who are English language learners o African Americans children o Native American children o Children in poverty o Children with special needs o Parents recovering from addiction o Teen parents * Partner with the following agencies o Healthy Start o Head Start o Child Care Resource & Referral o DHS (Department of Human Services) o WIC (Women Infants and Children) o childcare providers of all types o free lunch programs o teen parent classes/groups * Provide training for childcare providers for Oregon Registry continuing education credit Thank you, Katie Katie Anderson, Library Development Services * Youth Services Consultant * Oregon Center for the Book Coordinator * Oregon State Library, 250 Winter St. NE, Salem, OR 97301 katie.anderson at state.or.us, 503-378-2528 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <640435851FD7CB4AB3C4BE0D1963BA2437E3B56F@OSLEXCHANGE.osl.state.or.us.local> I'm getting lots of requests to make changes to your 2012-2013 Ready to Read Grants-yay! To request a change to your Ready to Read Grant all you have to do is call or email me and give me a brief explanation of the changes-one or two sentences is usually sufficient. I'll email you an official approval letter that you can put in your Ready to Read files which may come in handy if you're ever audited. I'll put a copy in my files at the State Library in case we're audited or we get a request to provide documentation when your library is audited (this really does happen!). When DO you need to request a change to your grant? If you want or need to spend Ready to Read Grant funds on something you did not say you were going to spend them on in your application. For example, if you asked to spend $500 on performers and $500 on books, but your Friends Group unexpectedly pays for a performer and you decide you want to spend some money to cover staff planning time, then you need to ask permission to make that change because spending R2R funds on staff wasn't in your application. When do you NOT need to request a change to your grant? If you are just shifting funds around, but you are still spending the money on the same things you said you were going to spend it on in your application. For example, if you asked to spend $500 on performers and $500 on books, but your Friends Group unexpectedly pays for a performer you can shift the money saved to buy more books without asking because spending R2R funds on books was in your application. This isn't a new requirement, we're just trying to communicate it better and be more diligent about documentation. Never hesitate to ask if you aren't sure. I'm happy to help!
