From katie.anderson at state.or.us Fri Nov 8 12:19:03 2013 From: katie.anderson at state.or.us (Katie Anderson) Date: Fri, 8 Nov 2013 20:19:03 +0000 Subject: [R2R-OR] Announcing the 2013 Oregon Summer Reading Statistics Message-ID: <640435851FD7CB4AB3C4BE0D1963BA244281482C@OSLEXCHANGE.osl.state.or.us.local> The 2013 Oregon Summer Reading Brief has just been published! http://www.oregon.gov/osl/LD/Pages/youthsvcs/oregon.srp.certificate.aspx#Oregon_Summer_Reading_Briefs The SRP brief is a compilation of data that Oregon public libraries reported this September via the Summer Reading Statistics and Ordering Survey. The SRP brief provides a picture of summer reading participation in Oregon. On the summer reading webpage you will find the SRP brief in both a pdf and word.docx format. Libraries are encouraged to use the word.docx as a template to create their own summer reading brief to share their statistics with their library board, city council, commissioners, and other library stake holders. Based on requests from several libraries, the State Library also published the Summer Reading Statistics Spreadsheet. This allows you to compare participation in summer reading at your library to similar libraries in Oregon. In addition, I included the population of children 0-14 years old from the 2013-2014 Ready to Read Grant list and calculated the % of those children who signed-up and finished so you can get a better idea of the reach your program has in your community. If you want a copy of the SRP statistics your library reported and the free SRP materials your library ordered, print this PDF of the spreadsheet. Thank you, Katie FYI: I will be forwarding this email on the kids-lib, OYAN, and libs-or email discussion lists so please excuse the cross-posting. As promised, no grants will be denied this year based on OBE. However, we want to take this opportunity to start getting everyone up to speed so you all will be successful when OBE is required-possibly for the 2015-2016 grant cycle. We have identified 30 libraries that need OBE coaching. Next week I will email guidance to those libraries in groups based on the type of coaching they need. In December I will follow-up with individual assistance via the phone (or email if a library prefers). I will not be contacting libraries that seemed to get OBE or those that seemed close to getting it because you will have at least one more grant cycle to practice before it really counts. Next year the R2R application will not change and I will provide all of you with the guidance I'm providing the libraries that need coaching. In addition, the State Library hopes to launch our OBE webpage before the end of this year so you'll be able to access free OBE professional development before you have to apply for R2R again. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas.
