Hello folks,

Did you know that across Oregon last year, only 38,908 of the 307,182 children who are eligible for free or reduced-priced meals were able to get meals during the summer? That's 268,274 hungry kids in the summer time! We know many of you are already summer food sites or partnering with food sites in your communities, and we are so grateful for the work you are doing to keep kids fed. Thank you!

If you haven't been able to be a site or partner with a site before, please consider the following at your library:

1) Check out this list of summer food sites<https://www.oregon.gov/ode/students-and-family/childnutrition/sfsp/Documents/2018_sfsp_meal_counts.pdf> and make sure you know where they are in your county, so you can refer folks to them. (The summer sites map is coming in May!)

2) If you see sites on this list and you don't know anything about them or who works there, please consider reaching out to introduce yourself and learning more about how your library may be able to partner in the summer to reach more kids.

3) If you want more information about becoming a summer meal site, please check with Jessica Visinsky at the ODE. Her contact info is below. You can also check out the ODE Summer Meals<https://www.oregon.gov/ode/students-and-family/childnutrition/sfsp/Pages/default.aspx> webpage.

4) If you have any questions - even if you think they're terrible questions! - about partnering for summer meals or ways to partner, please let me know - I would love to hear what you're thinking!

Thanks for joining the work to keep kids fed - We can't do everything, but we can do something. :)

Best,

Greta b
