My 8-year old granddaughter's favorite games are also by Peaceable Kingdom - they are "Buzz" and "Lost Puppies." She has been playing these since age 5 or 6.

Subject: [RFHF] Board games that support early literacy

There is a good conversation about fun board games that also support early learning taking place on ALA's Association for Library Services to Children listserv.

Here the games they've mentioned so far:

We are also HUGE fans of HABA games<http://www.habausa.com/products/haba-games-for-kids.html> in our house (and library!). They have a nice selection of games for little ones that promote a wide range of learning concepts. They are also really reasonable in price and come with sturdy components. They hold up to a lot of game play!

I have personally played Hoot Owl Hoot<https://www.amazon.com/Peaceable-Kingdom-Hoot-Cooperative-Board/dp/B004HVKAAI>, Sneaky Snacky Squirrel<https://www.amazon.com/Educational-Insights-Sneaky-Snacky-Squirrel/dp/B00FNK6P6U/ref=pd_sim_21_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00FNK6P6U&pd_rd_r=R1ZTEKTD16K04V19SFGY&pd_rd_w=t9d3y&pd_rd_wg=0NjuI&psc=1&refRID=R1ZTEKTD16K04V19SFGY>, Dinosaur Escape<https://www.amazon.com/Peaceable-Kingdom-Dinosaur-Winning-Cooperative/dp/B00S288BKI/ref=pd_sim_21_13?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00S288BKI&pd_rd_r=R1ZTEKTD16K04V19SFGY&pd_rd_w=t9d3y&pd_rd_wg=0NjuI&psc=1&refRID=R1ZTEKTD16K04V19SFGY>, and Friends and Neighbors<https://www.amazon.com/Peaceable-Kingdom-Friends-Neighbors-Helping/dp/B01CCIS41O/ref=pd_sim_21_6?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01CCIS41O&pd_rd_r=R1ZTEKTD16K04V19SFGY&pd_rd_w=t9d3y&pd_rd_wg=0NjuI&psc=1&refRID=R1ZTEKTD16K04V19SFGY>. They are cooperative board games, all players are working together towards a goal. All of those are great for ages 3 and up. They are fun, quick, and are great for team work. Highly recommend! All of these are by Peacable Kingdom<http://www.peaceablekingdom.com/> games

Shake & Take<https://www.amazon.com/Shake-Take-Alien-Brain-Games/dp/B017DV434C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483653441&sr=8-1&keywords=shake+%26+take+alien+game> game, this makes a great early literacy game. The basic premise is that each player takes a turn by rolling a die with shapes on it. If that player gets a triangle, he or she grabs a laminated sheet and tries to "hunt" or circle all the aliens shaped like triangles. His or her opponent shakes another die to try and steal the marker back so that they can "hunt" aliens. Whoever "hunts" all their aliens first wins.

If anyone else has favorites to suggestion, please hit "reply all" to share with the group.
