The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is accepting applications for
the 2020?2022 cohort of the Kaleidoscope Program

master of library and information science (MLIS) students from historically
underrepresented ethnic and racial groups into careers in research
libraries and archives.
Benefits of the Kaleidoscope Program include:

   - A tuition stipend of up to $10,000 over two years in support of MLIS
   education
   - Leadership and career development training

   member library
   - Financial support for skills development
   - A formal mentorship program

The Kaleidoscope Program is funded by ARL member libraries

commitment of ARL members to create a diverse workforce that will better
reflect the changing demographics of higher education and society and will

Program Goal and Objectives
The Kaleidoscope Program seeks to:

   - Attract MLIS students from historically underrepresented racial and
   ethnic groups to careers in research libraries and archives
   - Strengthen participants? leadership and job-searching skills via the ARL
   Annual Leadership Symposium

   - Develop a network of peers and mentors who will guide and nurture the

Applicant Criteria
Successful applicants will meet the following criteria:

   - Identify as being from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group,
   based on the categories outlined by the US Census Bureau

   <https://t.e2ma.net/click/l3uj1b/dd9mit/hkxxdj> or Aboriginal (First
   Nations, M?tis, and Inuit) people classifications

   - Be accepted into an ALA-accredited MLIS program
   - Have a strong interest in pursuing a career in a research library or
   archive, especially one that is a member of the Association of Research
   Libraries

To Apply
All applicants are required to submit the following materials *by 11:59
p.m. eastern daylight time on Wednesday, May 13, 2020*:

Hi all,


In case you were wondering about the status of Libros for Oregon<https://librosfororegon.wixsite.com/home> this year: like other organizations, we will need to alter our plans for 2020. There are too many uncertainties with libraries, travel, and the FIL right now for LfO<https://www.facebook.com/Libros4Oregon/> to recruit and prepare a 2020 cohort to buy books at the Guadalajara Book Fair (the FIL<https://www.fil.com.mx/ingles/i_info/i_info_fil.asp>). For now we will turn our energies to supporting one another in outreach; curating information and resources; and other ways to help our communities thrive in these interesting times. We look forward to resuming our Spanish-language collection-building adventures for Oregon libraries in 2021. Keep well, all.

Spanish author Salvador Macip and illustrator Emilio Urberuaga in a collaboration with Flamboyant Editorial from Madrid-Spain, just released for free download the book  Alicia y el Coronavirus. Please let me know if you heard of any other authors and/or illustrators that also have released free e-books (English or Spanish)  for children on the topic of COVID 19 pandemic. Our children deserve information as well but information that is well written and age appropriate during this time of change and uncertainties in their lives.
