Looking to ramp up your involvement with OLA? The Library Development & Legislation Committee (LDLC) is actively seeking new members from across the OLA membership!

The primary function of the LDLC is to establish priorities on legislative actions affecting all types of libraries in Oregon. Additionally, the LDLC strives to educate and engage OLA members on local, state, and federal legislative issues so they can confidently advocate on behalf of libraries with legislators and local decision makers.

We are approaching the odd-numbered, "long" session for the Oregon Legislature (beginning January 2021) so, if you have an interest in government and the legislative process, this is a great time to join the LDLC!

It's important to ensure a well-balanced and representative committee, in order to maximize our impact with influential legislators and other leaders concerning Oregon library issues. We aspire to have representation from a variety of libraries around the state; currently, we'd especially welcome a school librarian, and someone from Oregon Senate District 16<http://ola.memberclicks.net/message2/link/2ee05bb5-22e7-4f30-8184-619ab7c3e2d1/1> and/or from the 1st Congressional District of Oregon<http://ola.memberclicks.net/message2/link/2ee05bb5-22e7-4f30-8184-619ab7c3e2d1/2>.

The LDLC would also benefit from having a member who has moderate technology skills (specifically, experience with maintaining websites using a content management system like WordPress or Constant Contact) to further develop OLA's Engage<http://ola.memberclicks.net/message2/link/2ee05bb5-22e7-4f30-8184-619ab7c3e2d1/3> website.

Some things to note:

  *   There are currently 3 vacancies on the 9-member committee.
  *   Each committee member serves a 3-year term.
  *   The LDLC meets virtually at least every other month; in addition, significant correspondence via email does occur, particularly when under legislative deadlines.

If you'd like to join the LDLC, please reply at your earliest opportunity to the LDLC Chair, Sue Ludington (ldlcchair at olaweb.org<mailto:ldlcchair at olaweb.org>), to request an application. We are eager to fill committee vacancies no later than the end of October.
