Greetings,

I am writing to invite you to assist the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) in selecting the next Executive Director. As a stakeholder, we are interested in your thoughts about the candidates being considered for this important position.  The Board would like to announce three finalists: Mary Rita Hurley, with the Oregon Center for Nursing; Mike McNickle, with the Oregon Workers' Compensation Division; and Jon Pelkey, previously with the Oregon Health Authority.

The finalists will participate in a stakeholder forum prior to their final-round interviews with the Board.  The stakeholder forum is scheduled for Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 (details provided below).  All external and internal stakeholders are invited to attend.

The candidates' resumes can be viewed on the OSBN Website web site, http://www.oregon.gov/osbn    The candidates will be asked to introduce themselves and provide a brief presentation on their background and experience.  At the beginning of the forum, note cards will be provided for you to write down and submit questions you would like the candidates to address.  In formulating your questions, I recommend that you think about one or two attributes or characteristics that are important to you in this position.  You are encouraged to email your questions in advance to me at Twyla.Lawson at state.or.us<mailto:Twyla.Lawson at state.or.us>.  As facilitator, I will do my best to fit in as many questions as possible.  At the end of the forum, we will provide the attendees a survey link to collect your feedback regarding the candidates' strengths and challenges.   The information will then be compiled and provided to the members of the Board of Nursing prior to them making a final decision.

The event will occur at the Oregon State Board of Nursing, 17938 S.W. Upper Boones Ferry Rd., Portland, Oregon 97232.  The schedule is as follows:

Please note on January 16, 2013 the Board of Nursing will be meeting as authorized by ORS 192.660(2)(a)(Consideration of employment of a public officer), to conduct interviews in Executive Session (Closed to the Public) and may open to Public Session (Open to the Public) to take public comment and take board action on the employment of a new OSBN Executive Director at approximately 6:30 pm.
