RE: Oregon School for the Deaf
Here is the latest information about plans at the Oregon School for the
Deaf:
Oregon Department of Education Outlines Process for Finding Director for
School for the Deaf
SALEM - The Oregon Department of Education today released a process &
timeline for recruiting for the Director of the Oregon School for the
Deaf. The goal is to have a new OSD Director in place for the 2007-08
school year.
Step #1 - Identify a Steering Committee - complete by February 7, 2007
A. Form a Steering Committee of 14 representative stakeholders. The
Committee would be charged with the following tasks:
Assist the Department in
- identifying preferred qualifications for the Director
- developing a Position Description
- identifying recruitment strategies (e.g. marketing the announcement)
- identifying the Interview Team
B. Identify the Steering Committee participants. Each of the following
groups would be asked to identify individuals to represent the
respective group on the Steering Committee:
* OSD Parents - 3 members
* OSD Students -1 member
* OSD Staff
SEIU Represented - 1 member
STEA Represented - 1 member
Management Services - 1 member
* LEA representatives (e.g. Special Education Directors) - 2
members
* Regional Programs (serving Deaf/HH students in LEAs) - 2
members
* Community Groups (e.g. Oregon Association of the Deaf, OSD
Alumni Association, Oregon Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Program) -
3 members
* Other Groups (to be determined) - 2 members
Step #2 - Steering Committee meetings/Public Input Session - completed
by February 28, 2007
A. Steering Committee meetings would be facilitated to help ensure
equal and full participation and access.
B. 3-4 meetings would be held to identify qualifications,
recruitment strategies, and interviewing processes. Sign language
interpreters will be available for every meeting.
Step #3 - post and advertise nationally - position would be open through
April 13, 2007 (approximately 6 weeks).
Step #4 - Interviews - held between April 25 - May 11, 2007.
Step #5 - Interview Team scores and rates candidates; provides hiring
recommendations to ODE - completed by May 18, 2007.
Step #6 - Negotiations with successful candidate - completed by May 31,
2007.
Step #7 - OSD Director reports on August 1, 2007.
