Re: Board of Directors - Oregon School for the Deaf and Oregon
School for the Blind
The 2007 Legislative Assembly passed legislation to establish a Board of
Directors for the Oregon School for the Deaf (OSD) and a Board of
Directors for the Oregon School for the Blind (OSB). Each Board will be
represented by 7 members appointed by the Governor. Membership for the
respective Boards is identified in the legislation, and includes:
OSD Board: seven members of whom at least four are persons who are deaf,
and represented by:
* One member who has attended the Oregon School for the Deaf;
* One member who is deaf;
* One member who is a professional with experience working with
persons who are deaf;
* One member who is a professional with experience working with
Regional Programs for persons who are deaf;
* One member of the business community; and
* Two members who are parents of a child who is deaf.
OSB Board: seven members of whom at least three are persons who are
blind, and represented by:
* One member who has attended the Oregon School for the Blind or
was a staff person at the school;
* One member who is a professional with experience working with
Regional Programs for persons who are blind;
* One member of the business community;
* One member who is a parent of a child who is blind;
* One member who serves on the Commission for the Blind or who is
a staff person of the commission; and
* Two members who represent consumer groups that focus on issues
relating to persons who are blind.
If you are interested in serving on either of the respective Boards
complete the application "Executive Appointments Interest Form",
available online through the Office of the Governor at
http://www.governor.state.or.us/Gov/pdf/forms/Interestform.doc.
Applications must be submitted to the Office of the Governor. The
address is indicated on the first page of the document. Submissions
should be completed by August 10, 2007. It would be helpful if you also
include the role or representation that you would fill if selected (e.g.
parent, alumni, etc.).
Details and format for the Boards are not yet established. If you have
an interest in serving on the new Boards of Directors for OSB and OSD
please apply. The full text of House Bill 2263 is available at
http://www.leg.state.or.us/07reg/measpdf/hb2200.dir/hb2263.en.pdf.
Sections 47-56 include information about the new Boards, including
membership and functions.
