RE: Blind-Visually Impaired (BVI) Student Fund

Northwest Regional ESD has some news to share about the Blind-Visually Impaired Student (BVIS) Fund:

The BVI Student Fund is available to your regional program and school districts to support programs for all students with visual impairments in Oregon. The BVI Student Fund has identified and funded several statewide priorities such as goal ball, expanded core summer programs, tuition reimbursement for students to attend Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB), tuition reimbursement for students to attend the Learning Independence for Today and Tomorrow Program (LIFTT) at WSSB, and various types of professional development.

In an attempt to meet the needs of a greater number of students, funding will now be available to support local expanded core summer programs from the BVI Student Fund. Using the December Census Count for each region, you will be allotted access to funds at a rate of $100 per student. If additional funds are needed to support transportation costs and/or facility rentals please include those in your plan for BVI funding.

Please begin planning in your region. Regional program staff will no doubt take the lead in getting the plan formulated; however, each district that has a need should clearly make those needs known so they will become part of that plan. A general plan/budget will be required to access these funds. At this time, the BVIS Fund does not intend to provide a state-wide option during the summer of 2011. Please contact Julie York for any clarification you might need. Julie.york at state.or.us<mailto:Julie.york at state.or.us>
