About this Webinar

Are We Ready to Meet Today's Challenges with Diabetes Education: Plight or Promise?
 (Rescheduled from April 14, 2016)

Date: Wednesday, May 25, 2016

Time: 2:00 PM-3:00 PM, Eastern

Ongoing diabetes self-management education and support (DSME/S) helps people with diabetes make and sustain behavioral changes needed for successful disease management and prevention of diabetes-related complications. Despite proven benefits, many adults with diabetes are not receiving diabetes education and support. During this webinar, Linda Siminerio, PhD, RN, CDE; Maggie Powers, PhD, RD, CDE; and Joan Bardsley, MBA, RN, CDE, FAADE will use the 2015 Joint Position Statement on Diabetes Self-management Education and Support published by the American Diabetes Association, American Association of Diabetes Educators and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to help diabetes educators make the case for providing DSME/S services and shift paradigms of care to increase provider referrals and enhance patient engagement.

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  * Describe and share challenges associated with delivering DSME/S services, including reimbursement and referral for services with leading diabetes organizations, health systems and policy-makers.
  * Summarize the critical times for assessing and providing diabetes education based on the Joint Position Statement's diabetes education algorithm of care.
  * Understand how diabetes educators can use the evidence for DSME/S and the algorithm included in the Joint Position Statement to develop innovative models for increased referrals and participation in DSME/S.
