SMOKE MANAGEMENT FORECAST AND INSTRUCTIONS

SALEM FORESTRY WEATHER CENTER

OREGON DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY

ISSUED: Thursday, June 24, 2010 2:35 PM Pete Parsons

1. DISCUSSION AND FORECAST FOR NORTHEAST FORECAST AREA ZONES 630-638

    FRIDAY

A weak upper level trough will shift east of the Cascades by midday and progress to near the Idaho border by the evening. The chance of afternoon showers or thundershowers will continue across mainly the eastern zones with northwesterly flow aloft and increasing onshore transport winds stabilizing the air mass over the western zones. Temperatures will be near normal with fair to good smoke dispersion.

    OUTLOOK (SATURDAY-MONDAY)

A flat upper-level ridge will move over Oregon Saturday with a stable northwesterly flow both aloft and at transport level. Skies should become mostly sunny with continued near normal temperatures. The weakening ridge is forecast to get forced just east of the state Sunday and Monday by a strengthening southwesterly flow aloft. A surface thermal trough is forecast to move over the region, with transport winds becoming generally light and temperatures shooting above normal. No significant precipitation is expected during the outlook period, but a chance of showers will return by late Monday. Smoke dispersion should be fair to good during the outlook period.
