SMOKE MANAGEMENT FORECAST AND INSTRUCTIONS
SALEM FORESTRY WEATHER CENTER
OREGON DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY
ISSUED: Friday, November 12, 2010 8:00 AM Pete Parsons
1. DISCUSSION AND FORECAST FOR THE WESTERN OREGON AREA FORECAST ZONES 601-623
TODAY
A flat upper-level ridge, in the eastern Gulf of Alaska, will bring a drying and cool northwesterly flow aloft to the region. Residual low-level moisture will combine with a stabilizing air mass to produce areas of dense valley fog this morning, mainly from Lane County north. Transport winds will be variable across the north and light northerly across the southern zones. That will likely create an opportunity to take care of some southern units requiring northerly winds. Temperatures aloft will remain cool enough for fair afternoon mixing, but look for evening mixing heights to drop quickly.
2. DISPERSION
