After a three-year hiatus, Oregon schools will participate in the
2007-2008 United States Academic Decathlon competition. All Oregon high
schools are invited to field a team and participate. Study guides and
materials have been released so teams can begin preparing for the Oregon
state competition in March, 2008. The winning team will represent
Oregon in the national finals in April, 2008 in Garden Grove,
California. The competition consists of ten events: seven objective
exams in the subjects of math, art, science, literature, music,
economics, and social studies; and three subjectives consisting of
speech, interview, and essay. Next year's theme will be The Civil War.
Preparation requires students to study provided course materials and
conduct independent outside research. For more information view the
PowerPoint presentation at the following link: Academic Decathlon
Presentation <http://orad.us/ORAD%20Presentation.ppt> ., and visit the
website at: http://orad.us. All interest in participation and any
questions should be directed to executive director Christian Cerone:
