The Veterans Health Administration leads the nation in developing and
implementing telemedicine and health care information technologies among its
more than 1,300 care facilities.   Millions of Veterans benefit from
sophisticated databases and applications including "VistA" and "My
HealtheVet".  VHA is noted for its information technology focus on
supporting chronic illness, mental health care, rural health delivery,
underserved and Native American Veterans, and rehabilitation research.

The Office of Care Coordination is integrally involved in using health
informatics, telehealth, and disease management to extend care and case
management.   Care Coordination Home Telehealth and related activities are
starting to transform the way care is delivered across the 21 Veteran
Integrated Network Systems (VISNs).

   - Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), Co-Chair House 21st Century Healthcare
   Caucus


   - Adam Darkins, MD, MPH, FRCS, Chief Consultant for Care Coordination at
   the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Darkins is responsible for
   coordinating telehealth throughout the VA system including into more than
   30,000 homes.  Dr. Darkins will present new policy research findings based
   on the VHA Telehealth efforts.


   - Steve Pirzchalski is Director of Enterprise Network Services for the
   Dept. of Veterans Affairs and is leading a set of activities focused on
   improving telehealth capabilities for the VA.  He is currently the Director
   of the Network Design, Planning, and Engineering Service in the Office of
   Telecommunications Engineering and Design within the Office of Information
   and Technology
