     *June CTeL Washington Live! Brown Bag Telehealth Seminar: Professional
Liability and Risk Management *

    *Maine Law Requires Health Plans To Cover Telemedicine Services*
    Anyone who has ever owned a cell phone, an ipod, or a computer, knows
that technology is constantly changing and improving, the healthcare
industry is no different.
On June 11, 2009, Maine Governor John Baldacci (D) signed into law an Act To
Provide for Insurance Coverage of Telemedicine Services (LD 1073).  This law
will require Maine health insurance plans to reimburse for telemedicine
services.  This law was introduced by State Representative Anne Perry (D).

In a statement, Baldacci said, "Telemedicine offers opportunities to
increase the accessibility of health care, ensure that appropriate medical
information is available, reduces medical errors and reduces health care
costs," adding, "This bill makes sense and I am pleased to sign it."

    *Polycom and AMD Introduce New Voice and Video Service*      Anyone who
has ever owned a cell phone, an ipod, or a computer, knows that technology
is constantly changing and improving, the healthcare industry is no
different.
Polycom Inc. and AMD Global Telemedicine introduced a new voice and video
service.  AMD Dynamic Encounter Network (ADEN) manages and transmits
information from medical devices.  ADEN is incorporated with Polycom's
Converged Management Application (CMA) and Polycom's CMA Desktop Client,
which provides "real-time" images of patients with their electronic medical
records.  It also enables doctors and patients to watch live videos sessions
over the internet from any location.
