    *TLI Urges Congress for $15 Million in Telehealth Appropriations Funding
for FY 2010*     Your help is needed to carry the telehealth message to the
U.S. Congress on funding for telehealth programs in the Department of Health
and Human Services!

Each year, Congress and the President establish spending levels for each of
the federal government's departments, agencies, and programs for the
upcoming fiscal year.  This year, the House Appropriations Committee has set
a $15 million funding level for telehealth initiatives for  Fiscal  Year
2010,  for HHS's telehealth programs.

However, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health, and Human
Services is proposing that the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth be
funded at $8.2 million (FY   2009 levels) - a figure substantially lower
than the House's recommendation.

TLI, in its letter to Chairmen Harkin and Obey, are urging the Senate to
adopt the House's funding levels in the final FY 2010 appropriations bill.

We urge your to lend your voice to the effort to secure higher telehealth
funding by signing on to this letter to the Congressional leaders who will
be making the final funding level decision.  These discussions are occurring
now, so please take action immediately!

    *Credentialing Update*     This past week, TLI, along with the American
Telemedicine Association and the Joint Commission, met with key Senators to
discuss the inclusion of credentialing language in the Senate's final health
care reform bill.  We are staying positive as we wait to hear back from
these Members' offices.  This summer, TLI also reached out to Congressman
Mike Thompson (D-CA), encouraging him to ensure that credentialing language
was included in the final version of the House health care reform bill.
Congressman Thompson continues to work with Ways and Means Committee staff
on this issue.
