*Health Care Organizations Weigh In on Newly ProposedRules for
'Meaningful Use' of EHRs*
* *
Health care organizations around the country are offering their feedback to
the federal government regarding the recent proposed rules to the adoption
of electronic health records and the "meaningful use" criteria.
The American Hospital Association and the American Academy of Family
Physicians "have expressed concern that the criteria might prevent some
health care providers from obtaining federal incentive payments."

Long-Distance Medicine
*
Telemedicine technology is a key tool in bringing access to care to those
living in rural, remote, and underserved populations. In Sioux Falls, South
Dakota, the Avera McKennan Hospital is using telemedicine technologies to
"to offer rural hospitals 24-hour emergency room services through broadband
lines and telemedicine technology."
Dr. Donald Kosiak, medical director for Avera's eCare program, said the
"health system received a $13 million grant from the Leona and Harry B.
Helmsley Charitable Trust last April, $6 million of which was directed to
eCare."
