3pm Central | 4pm Eastern

*Greetings!*

You are invited to attend the next NRTRC Open Mic Webinar, part of our
ongoing education series for folks who are interested in Telehealth.

*About this program*:

Swedish has successfully implemented numerous internal and external
telemedicine programs since 2004. We now have 20 telemedicine partners
throughout Washington. From the initial program (TeleICU 2004), we have
added TeleStroke (2005), TeleNeurology, Inpatient (2011), TeleSocial Work
(2011), Tele-Hospitalist (2012) and TelePsychiatry (2012). Currently, we
are able to offer a menu of over 20 programs. Through this growth, we have
learned the importance of collaboration with physician, nursing, and
information technology leadership in order to facilitate program
sustainability.

A key component in expanding TeleHealth programs and services was the
implementation of the role of the Telepresenter. This role required
development of a training program based on the American Telemedicine
Association white paper. The Telepresenter is a nurse who is trained to the
technology, such as digital stethoscope, otoscope, ophthalmoscope and
examination camera, to facilitate comprehensive exams under physician
guidance. Programs launched utilizing a TelePresenter include
TeleNeurology, TeleHospitalist and TelePyschiatry to increase efficiencies
across our five campus system. Each program was developed leveraging
existing clinical resources to optimize efficiencies while increasing
timely access to patients. Through adoption of these programs we were able
to demonstrate improvement in length of stay, time to treat, and equivalent
accuracy of diagnosis.

*Presented by: Pita Nims, RN MN*

A master’s prepared nurse with a background in clinical education including
a strong project management component; Pita Nims builds and manages the
clinical aspect of Swedish’s telemedicine programs. Her clinical background
was in critical care in the cardiac unit here on the Cherry Hill campus and
received her undergrad and graduate degree in nursing from the University
of Washington. She is also certified as a Telepresenter through the
University Of Minnesota School Of Nursing, and recently completed
certification in project management through the continuing education
program at the University of Washington. She has trained over 30 nurses
successfully in telepresenting here at Swedish.
