Hello. If you have been following the Emporia State University Diversity Initiative grant announcements, you will be aware that the State Library is positioned to sponsor tribal library staff to participate in the Emporia University Portland MLS program or the Emporia distance undergraduate Information Resource Studies program. Emporia will be offering full scholarships, plus educational support for other costs. The Oregon partners in this grant are now asking for information about any of your staff who might consider participating in this program to further their education.
I have attached an electronic version of the program brochure to this e-mail to assist you in notifying your staff. We hope you will share the attached brochure with your staff and encourage those who might be interested in the program to contact us at the State Library.
Marykay Dahlgreen and I would also be happy to provide further information and assistance to you or any of your staff who may have an interest. The MLS program will start in early 2007, so it is important that any potential candidates notify us as soon as possible, so they can begin the application process. Assistance will be available for the application/admission process, as well as support and possibly funding for completing the Graduate Record Exam. All participating students will be assigned a mentor from the State Library to provide support and coaching through the program, and the State Library will work with students to arrange additional training and internship opportunities.
Please share this information with your employees, and send us the names and contact information for any of your staff who may be interested. If you or your staff have any questions, please feel free to call Perri Parise (800) 236-7302, Marykay Dahlgreen (503) 378-5012, or myself at (503) 378-3635. We hope you will have employees who can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
Best regards, Lee Rengert
