On-site trainings are presentation style. Some facilities may have computers available for attendees to practice afterwards. The attached PDF gives location details and will also be posted on the Gale implementation site shortly. There is a link to register for on-site training at: http://library.state.or.us/services/surveys/survey.php?sid=561 On September 9, there is also an opportunity for institutions to connect to trainings via Polycom. The registration survey indicates this as an option, and asks for the person at the desired polycom site to contact so technicians at Blue Mountain Community College can set up the connection. We will be forwarding the list of institutions who have already expressed a desire for a Polycom connection to BMCC. Likewise, we will input any emails we have received into the registration form. If you are not able to open the attachment or have any questions, please contact Ann Reed, at 503-378-5027 or ann.reed at state.or.us. URL: From dahlgreen_marykay at oslmac.osl.state.or.us Wed Sep 9 09:44:07 2009 From: dahlgreen_marykay at oslmac.osl.state.or.us (MaryKay Dahlgreen) Date: Wed, 9 Sep 2009 09:44:07 -0700 Subject: [TL-Directors] Update on transition to Gale databases Message-ID: It appears that we are moving along with the transition to the Gale databases, thanks to all of you for your patience and work. There have been a number of questions so please take note of all of the following items. This information applies to public, academic and tribal libraries. All the IP addresses have been loaded and URLs posted on the implementation website so each library needs to use those URLs to set the databases up in their library. If you have any difficulty please contact Gale technical support, either directly using the contact information on the website or using the request form at the bottom of the implementation webpage http://www.galesupport.com/oregon If your library subscribed to Gale products before the transition, your remote authentication protocol will work for the statewide products. If you are having any problem please contact Gale technical support. If your library didn't subscribe to any Gale products before the transition you will need to complete and send the form at the bottom of the implementation website http://www.galesupport.com/oregon so Gale can set up remote authentication for you. You can also directly contact Doug Hansen doug.hansen at cengage.com There has been some confusion on that item so I do apologize for not making that clear earlier. The list of databases on the implementation website is the list of databases that are included in the statewide license. There are four sample titles in the GVRL and additional titles will be added when the Oregon database committee completes their selections, we hope to have those selections made by the end of September and will make sure you are notified when those have been selected. We need a certification form from each public, academic and tribal library indicating if you will or will not be participating in the statewide database program. The form is available at http://www.galesupport.com/oregon (at the top click on "forms to complete and return") We have extended the deadline for return of those forms to September 18. Thanks to those of you who have returned your form. There have been questions about the cost of the databases to libraries. That question will not be definitively answered until the State Library Board meets on October 19th. HOWEVER the State Library staff will be recommending to the LSTA Advisory Council & Board that LSTA funds be used to pay the entire cost of the 09-10 Gale database contract since the cost will be significanlty lower than in previous years and enough funds have been budgeted to pay the cost for all public, academic, tribal and school libraries. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me and I will do my best to answer your questions or point you in the right direction for an answer.
