Cover Oregon is Oregon's new health insurance exchange, and is part of the federal Affordable Care Act. This new online marketplace will help Oregonians compare and enroll in health and dental coverage that fits their needs and budget. More Oregonians will be able to get health coverage, even if they already have a health condition, and access financial help. Cover Oregon will be rolling out on October 1, 2013. I am happy to announce that Cover Oregon will provide libraries the ability to order promotional products (brochures, bookmarks, etc.) from their web site. The Oregon State Library has been asked to provide a list of library contacts for Cover Oregon to use as they set up accounts. We will provide the contact information for public and tribal library directors unless you want to appoint someone else from your library to serve as a contact. If you want to appoint an alternative contact, please fill out the form linked below by August 23, 2013. (Please ignore any duplicate requests -- we are attempting to be as inclusive as possible, thanks!) The Oregon State Library has contracted with Danielle Plumer to develop a statewide digital collections plan for Oregon. As part of that project, Danielle has developed an online survey to collect additional detail about current digital collections in Oregon. You can help by completing this survey by August 31. Please feel free to forward this message to any partners or contacts you might have in other institutions. We are attempting not only to compile a comprehensive list of digital collections in Oregon but also to identify institutional needs and obstacles to digitization of historical collections by libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, and other cultural heritage institutions in the state. The survey is available at http://osl.digital-collections.sgizmo.com/s3/. It should require approximately twenty minutes of your time, plus roughly five minutes per digital collection listed. You do not need to identify every collection separately if there is a single "landing page" or access point for multiple collections. Individual responses will remain private, but aggregate detail, including a listing of the collections identified through this survey, will be made available to the Oregon State Library. If you have any questions about the survey, please do not hesitate to contact me. The survey will remain open through August 31, 2013. Cheers! As part of the process for selecting which newspaper titles we will digitize, we are requesting nominations from public libraries for titles published in small or rural communities before 1923 that are not yet represented on the Historic Oregon Newspapers website (http://oregonnews.uoregon.edu/). If you would like to nominate a title from your area, please respond off list to srabun at uoregon.edu and provide newspaper title information (place of publication, title, publication dates, OCLC or LCCN, etc.) as well as why you would like to see the title digitized. Nominations will be reviewed and considered by the ODNP Advisory Board, where a final decision will be made. Many thanks!
