Dear Jennifer

With sponsorship by the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation and funding by the United States Department of the Interior, the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums is offering a Risk Evaluation and Emergency Planning for Tribal Cultural Institutions Certificate at the 2018 International Conference of Indigenous Archives, Libraries and Museums.
Funding of up to $1,000 per person is available for eligible lodging and travel expenses. You may choose from a basic certificate program which requires two days of on-site training or an expanded program which requires four days of on-site training.
Participants in the Basic Certificate Program will learn the principles of risk assessment, how to evaluate threats, and will conduct a practice risk assessment at a local collecting institution. Participants in the Expanded Certificate Program will receive seven hours of training focused on preventative conservation and collections care.
Basic Certificate Schedule (two days of training)
There are no registration fees for applicants accepted into the basic program. Funding for lodging and travel is available. Complete the funding request below.

  *   Monday, October 8, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. - Workshop at Mystic Lake Event Center
  *   Tuesday, October 9, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. - Site visit to local collecting institution
Expanded Certificate Schedule (four days of training)

  *   Wednesday, October 10, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. - Collections Care sessions at ATALM
  *   Thursday, October 11, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. - Collections Care sessions at ATALM
Certificate Requirements:

  *   Attend the "Risk Evaluation and Emergency Planning for Tribal Cultural Institutions" workshop and tour on October 8th and 9th.
  *   In advance read a short emergency planning primer and participate in two question and answer webinar sessions covering the risk assessment process.
  *   Following the conference, participate in two question and answer webinar sessions covering the risk assessment process.
  *   After the webinars, submit a completed emergency plan and participate in a 15-minute phone call or Skype session with an instructor to go over plan comments/questions and timeline for plan updates.
  *   For the Expanded Certificate, participate in seven hours of training during the ATALM conference.
Eligible candidates include:

  *   Staff members of tribal archives, libraries, museums, and historic preservation offices programs.
  *   Staff members of non-tribal cultural institutions who are tribally enrolled, or working directly with Native collections.
  *   Students enrolled in college-level library, museum, or archival programs with access to a tribal archive, library, or museum
